Day 1 of 1st Treatment Cycle

Day 1 was very good....she is taking 3 different drugs each day which are Bleomycin, Etoposide and Cisplatin the regimen is the Chemo world is BEP.

It was a very long day, she has to have 9 hours of hydration and each drug is administered individually all intravenous they also are giving her drugs for nausea which are Dexamethasone and Emend!

So far so good

The beginning

Early November Sophia started not feeling well and noticed her belly had starting swelling....after going to a Gastrointestinal specialist and coming back with a clean slate I started researching swollen abdomen in Females which was immediately directed to ovarian cancer! All of her symptoms were becoming more clear. We had her in to see her Gynocologist where they discovered a mass the size of a cantelope. The sent her right away for MRI test and a CA125 blood test which is the only testing they have available for ovarian cancer. Her blood test came back clean. She was scheduled to have surgery to remove the mass on Dec 1. During surgery they removed the mass but also a gallon and a half of fluid (as thin as she is she looked about 7 months pregnant in a months time when she went in for surgery) During the removal is when her Dr discovered the cancer. All was removed and he did a biopsy on all areas that the cancer could potentially reach.

At her follow up it was determined she had one of the rarest forms of ovarian cancer, A Granulosa Cell Tumor...it makes up for only 2% of all ovarian cancers and although it is rare it has a great chance of recovery following treatments of chemotherapy.

Sophia will be doing 4 treatments total and each treatment consist of 3 days 8-10 hours per day

Treatments start Dec 29, 30 and 31 at Cedars Cancer Center.

Her Oncologist is Dr Ronald Leuchter who performed her surgery and is overseeing her treatments and all follow up.

Dr Gregory Sarna will be handling her treatments

I will say...although this has been such a crazy experience....all the doctors and staff at Cedars and St Johns in Santa Monica have been absolutely incredible

As crazy as this has been Sophia has an incredible attitude!
